“Interview with the Vampire”'s Jacob Anderson on 'Emotional' Season 2: 'People Are Going to Scream at the TV' (Exclusive)

While appearing on PEOPLE in 10 with costar Sam Reid, Anderson says fans will "feel a huge amount of satisfaction and catharsis" from the AMC series' sophomore season

Interview with the Vampire fans are in store for an emotional rollercoaster.

Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid, who star in the AMC series, chatted with PEOPLE in 10 about what's to come in season 2 for the gothic horror series.

Anderson, 33 — who portrays Louis de Pointe du Lac, the 145-year-old vampire who is the subject of the series’ “interview” with Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) — says fans should prepare for a memorable second season.

“It is a very, very emotional season,” he says, before clarifying that he thinks season 1 was also emotional but season 2 provides a new perspective into his character’s psyche.

“I think that it’s an intellectual current that runs through Louis and the way that Louis speaks. It’s a front in season 1. It’s a front for detachment, and it all kind of breaks down to a raw, like what’s underneath the skin," he adds.

The Game of Thrones alum confesses that fans “are going to scream at the TV”  but adds that he believes fans will “feel a huge amount of satisfaction and catharsis and all the emotions.”

“I think when people watch it, there are going to be things that are shocking to hear that come out of that,” he notes.

The series follows Anderson’s character, who requests to redo an interview with veteran journalist Daniel Molloy after an unpublished interview from 1973. Throughout their interview, he recalls his life in 1910s New Orleans, when he was romantically involved and later made a vampire by Lestat de Lioncourt (Reid).

Amidst Louis’ transition, the pair meet a dying teenager, Claudia (Delainey Hayles), who Lestat turns into a vampire. The two men then raise her as their daughter throughout the series.

The series is based on Anne Rice’s 1976 novel of the same name and is not the first screen adaptation of the horror novel. In 1994, Neil Jordan brought the story to the big screen with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, who starred as Lestat and Louis, respectively.

Unlike the series, the film follows Louis’ transformation into a vampire beginning in 1791 rather than 1910. It also starred Kirsten Dunst as Claudia, Christian Slater as Daniel, as well as Antonio Banderas and Stephen Rea.

Ahead of the series premiere in 2022, the show's executive producer, Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), told PEOPLE about the importance of upholding the author’s legacy in modern storytelling.

"Developing this series carries great pressure and responsibility," he said. "What Anne Rice created and what her fans have been transfixed by forces us to take this book-to-television show transition with a great deal of responsibility. It is imperative that we do not disappoint her fans and yet we need to make sure that this story, these characters sing for a modern audience."

Interview with a Vampire season 2 premieres its first episode on Sunday, May 12 on AMC and AMC+.
