The internet thinks Ivanka Trump was staring at Angela Merkel during trade war speech

During a speech at the Munich Security Conference over the weekend, German Chancellor Angela Merkel went after the Trump administration for wanting to label BMWs as national security threats in order to impose tariffs.

“We’re proud of our cars,” Merkel said (via a translator). “They are built in the United States of America. South Carolina … [is] actually the largest BMW plant. Not in Bavaria.”

Ivanka Trump was there as a representative for the U.S. and did not join those around her as Merkel’s comments began to draw applause. She instead stared intently in the general direction of Merkel while not showing much expression at all.

“So, when these cars … are supposed to be a threat to the national security of America, it’s a bit of a shock to us,” Merkel said, followed by a long ovation.

Viewers on Twitter have taken notice of the moment, with some loving the way Ivanka Trump handled the situation and others questioning the validity of the story to begin with.

Others wondered why she was even there, and some speculated as to why she wasn’t wearing the headphones on her head.

Some viewers even thought that a few people in the audience were pointing at her and laughing at her during the applause.
