It’s not everyday that Grammy award-winning singer Toni Braxton trends on social media, but unfortunately for her this time around—it’s not for anything good. I’ll explain.

It all started back in November with her sister Tamar Braxton’s infamous Love and War 10th Anniversary show performance in Los Angeles—the same performance that went viral because reality TV star Chrisean Rock began to incoherently interrupt the performance. After news began to circulate that Rock might have assaulted someone back stage, a new clip has now gone viral that provides more insight into how Rock was behaving backstage.

As the clip began to gain more traction, some were put off by Toni’s reaction to Rock, expressing that she should’ve been more welcoming like a true Christian and believer.

However, others came to Toni’s defense and explained how its traditionally frowned upon to interrupt a prayer circle and called out Chrisean for trying to make a scene and bringing attention to herself during the sacred moment. Folks online also mentioned Toni’s Lupus diagnosis as the reason why she felt uncomfortable joining hands with a stranger.

“People are mad at Toni Braxton for not grabbing Chrisean Rock hand. Instead of, at Chrisean interrupting and breaking up a prayers circle, people are weird,” wrote one user on X, f.k.a. Twitter.

“This is so cringy omg! Interrupting Tamar’s prayer circle, moving the living legend Toni Braxton out of the way, refusing to read everyone’s non-verbal body language and then grabbing Toni anyway?! That girl is not mentally well,” said another.

“Toni Braxton absolutely did not have to hold Chrisean hand if she didnt want to You internet people need a psych eval, seriously,” wrote another.

But perhaps, things were better said from Tamar herself who, after getting wind of the negativity being lobbed toward her sister, took to X on New Year’s Day to defend her:

“I wasn’t going to say anything because I think that at this point y’all are going to believe whatever you want. And ALL the events that happened was unfortunate. But what is truly DISGUSTING is that my dressing room and prayer is a sacred place and whomever released that can go straight to hell,” Tamar wrote, later following up with: “I’m OVER it!! Coming for my sister who has lupus and don’t even really come outside was the line for me. This is so traumatic. Having to relive that night because some greedy person wanted to sell footage. Well now i have the ALL the footage y’all been waiting on. God don’t like ugly. It’s all on my YouTube. I’m Never EVER discussing this again.”

Unfortunately, Tamar would go on to discuss the event again as she later posted a nearly seven and a half minute video on YouTube shining further light on the situation. She revealed that Chrisean nor Toni knew each other and that both she and her sister were caught off guard because no one usually interrupts a prayer circle. Tamar also reiterated previous commentators remarks about her sister having lupus and how its not safe for her to touch strangers.

“Me and my sister meant no ill will towards nobody, this is our touring business we take it very seriously,” she said.
