'Insurgent' Started Shooting Today, So Get Off Their Backs!

Just two months after Divergent opened, Lionsgate announced today that the cast and crew of the sequel, Insurgent, just started production in Atlanta. (Heaven forbid Shailene Woodley get a moment to breathe while in the midst of her exhaustive multi-month publicity marathon for The Fault in Our Stars, which opens on June 6. They’ll probably make her call morning-zoo radio DJs to hype TFIOS in the middle of Insurgent stunts.) Insurgent has a new director, with Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D., RED) taking over for Divergent’s Neil Burger this time, much as The Hunger Games swapped its directors after its first go-round.

The sequel will come out on March 20, 2015, nearly a year to the day after Divergent. Knocking out the installments of YA franchises on an annual schedule has become de rigeur. Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games — now nobody involved can rest until a series has been wrung dry. Remember when we had to wait three years between Star Wars movies? If you asked people to have that kind of patience today, they’d riot in the streets! The very fact that J.J. Abrams isn’t shooting an entire trilogy at once probably has fanboys tapping their feet in impatience.
