UPDATE with more details:Shield 5, created and directed by Anthony Wilcox (Hello Carter), debuts today on the photo-sharing platform Instagram with a new way of telling scripted stories: via 28 15-second episodes running throughout the month.

Each 15-second episode will be accompanied by a photograph that also will be an intrinsic part of the story. The new form of content is being labeled as “social cinema.”

In Shield 5, security driver John Swift is arrested for his involvement in a diamond heist and subsequent death of a colleague. Determined to prove his innocence, he finds himself on the run from both the police and those he believes have framed him. Embroiled in a perilous game of cat and mouse, he tries to evade capture long enough to uncover the truth.

The show was co-created and written by Adam Dewar and stars Christian Cooke, Elliot Gleave (aka Example), Wallis Day and Kieran O’Brien. Shield 5 was produced by Mark Hopkins & Declan Reddington with executive producer Julian Bird of Lorton Entertainment.

Non-traditional social and digital media platforms are becoming increasingly involved in content generation and distribution. In January, Vimeo announced it was launching Share the Screen, an initiative to fund female filmmakers and promote their pics. Snapchat execs are also believed to be exploring how they can leverage their platform for scripted content.

Facebook-owned Instagram has 400 million worldwide monthly active users and 200 million worldwide daily active users.
