Inspirational Insights: What does your heart want?

Proverbs 4:23, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”

With so much conflict and evil that seems to be marching across this country, and the world, I’ve taken the following from an article written back in 2017.

The heart is an astonishing wonder of creation. Its main job is to pump life-giving blood throughout our body. When the heart stops pumping, you’re pretty much done for, unless there is someone that can resuscitate it and get it to pump life back into you again.

The heart is an organ that can neither feel, hear, nor see. However something within us can stir feelings of all types of emotions. Our brain soaks in information that relays to that part of us that connects to those feelings and we associate it to the heart. Many of us do.

I’ve made comments like, “my heart is happy” or “my heart is broken”. Regardless of whether it’s the heart, or soul, or whatever, there is something that tells Christians whether something is good or bad; the Holy Spirit!

All the destruction of personal property, threats, and out-and-out disregard for human life that happens is not the heart of a Christian. Most of it is from nothing more than forming an opinion from misinformation passed from person to person.

I know when I hear or read something that causes an “off” feeling it makes me wonder about its validity. I hear certain speakers, supposedly righteous, and certain parts of their talk just don’t sound true to scripture. Be careful what you listen to and what you read. It can send you down a path of destruction very quickly.

I see people reacting to certain historical situations and I wonder if there isn’t something, deep inside, telling them that trying to destroy history will not change it. It only eliminates future generations of learning why this country, and others, has become what it is today. Whatever is in our history, whether right or wrong — learn from it; don’t destroy it.

Something should stir inside your heart that tells you that by allowing cruelty and hatred for your fellow man is just wrong. We have so many questions…but only one solution.

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your path”.

The words “trust in the Lord” echoes the command in Deuteronomy 6:5 to love God with all our being. We lean on God for support and to lift us up in our time of troubles. We acknowledge Him by observing and knowing Him in the course of living. By doing so we find that time after time He, the Holy Spirit, will smooth our paths and lead us in our thinking and our actions.

David, in Psalm 51:10, requests, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Then later, God tells Ezekiel in 11:19 that if the people would take away all that was detestable and all the abomination, “I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh.”

So, what do you want today? A heart of peace, happiness, and truth or a heart of hatred, misinformation, and deliberate destruction?

The heart wants what the heart wants and my heart…wants love!
