'Inspirational' Celine Dion Documentary Gets a Release Date

In December 2022, Celine Dion postponed several of her European tour dates, explaining that she'd been diagnosed with a life-altering neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome. "While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having," she said at the time.
Now, a year-and-a-half later, she's ready to share more about her health battle in a new documentary called I Am: Celine Dion, which will stream on Prime Video this summer.
"As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have [realized] how much I have missed it [and] being able to see my fans," Dion said in January, in a statement announcing the project. "During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis."

What is I Am: Celine Dion about?
The documentary, directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor (The Final Inch), promises a behind-the-scenes look at Dion's struggle with stiff person syndrome. "Serving as a love letter to her fans, this inspirational documentary highlights the music that has guided her life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit," a synopsis for the documentary reads.
What is Celine Dion's illness?
Celine Dion has stiff person syndrome. She was diagnosed with the neurological disorder after experiencing persistent spasms, which led to her postponing several performances on her European tour in December 2022.
On March 16, 2024, the "My Heart Will Go On" singer shared an update on Instagram, saying that fighting the disorder has been "one of the hardest experiences" of her life. "...But I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible," she continued. "I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you!I want to send my encouragement and support to all those around the world that have been affected by SPS. I want you to know you can do it! We can do it!"
