Independent cabler INSP, focused on Western programming, will premiere its original television series “Blue Ridge” July 28 at 9 p.m. ET.

Johnathon Schaech will reprise his role as Sheriff Justin Wise from the 2020 movie “Blue Ridge,” which the TV series is based on. The six-episode crime drama is set in the North Carolina mountains, where Wise, a modern Western hero, endeavors to uphold the law while living in a small Appalachian town.

“This new series builds on the film’s original storylines,” said Doug Butts, EVP of programming at the cable network. “Johnathon’s role has been expanded significantly, and his performance is exceptional. We believe the stories will resonate well with the INSP audience and even draw new viewers to the network who love watching crime procedurals. At its core, Blue Ridge is about the strength of community and the power of human connection, and it celebrates the human experience with all its complexity.”

The 2020 crime drama followed Wise, who moves to a small mountain town to be closer to his ex-wife Elli (Sarah Lancaster). A high-profile murder takes place in the otherwise quiet small town, and Wise and his deputies set out to solve the murder.

Schaech is joined in the upcoming TV series by series regulars Lancaster reprising her role of Elli Wise, A Martinez as Connor McGrath, Taegen Burns as Maddie Wise, Tom Proctor as Jeremiah Wade, Avianna Mynhier as Deputy Maxx Covington and Greg Perrow as Deputy RP. Gary Wheeler serves as a showrunner.

Special guest stars include Bruce Boxleitner, Max Martini, Ethan Embry, Mike O’Hearn, Erin Cahill, Jesse Kove, Lev Cameron and Jessica McKay.
