On the eve of the 96th annual Academy Awards, the hottest party in town, returning for its 15th year, was the Chanel and Charles Finch pre-Oscar Dinner at the iconic Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel.

IndieWire attended alongside stars including Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart, America Ferrera, Robert De Niro, Chloë Sevigny, Colman Domingo, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dominic Sessa, Sandra Hüller, Willem Dafoe, Alexander Payne, Cord Jefferson, Celine Song, and Jonathan Glazer, to name a few.

Walking into the event, we were greeted by a festive band playing music along the hotel’s walkway. On an intimate patio outside of the Polo Lounge, hors d’oeuvres and champagne flowed as nominees, actors, musicians, directors, producers, writers, and Hollywood influencers celebrated and pre-gamed the biggest night in cinema.

“It’s just such a nice moment to celebrate before things get too crazy tomorrow night. It’s always such an eclectic and fun group of people,” Margot Robbie said of the evening. “I look forward to being able to catch up with people and meet new people. I think the collaboration between film and fashion has just been so seeped in film history and fashion history, and I had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with Chanel on the “Barbie” movie, which is so much fun, and it’s another great example of how those two worlds can collide.”

One of our favorite moments was the roar of energy that came from “Anatomy of a Fall” director Justine Triet and star Sandra Hüller’s entrance — people quite literally flocked to capture their photo and chit chat to Hollywood’s hottest pair of “it girls” right now. Once settled in, Hüller lit a cigarette and said to a friend, “I feel like a teenager again,” with a chuckle.

“I love celebrating cinema, which the House of Chanel has a great history of doing, celebrating and supporting actors, filmmakers, and glamor,” Chloë Sevigny said. “I’m excited about talking to people about the awards and what everybody’s excited about and what’s coming out in the future and just, yeah, celebrating movies.” The Oscar nominee cheered IndieWire with a warm Oscars weekend welcome.

Through their continuing partnership with Charles Finch and with cinema, Chanel continues to perpetuate “a certain spirit dear to its own creator: one of an insatiable quest for modernity and personal expression.”
