Military families can get great deals at Shades of Green, Disney World's special resort for veterans

Military families, do you hear that? Mickey Mouse is calling your name.

Many Disney fans are unaware that nestled inside Walt Disney World resort, just a short drive from the Magic Kingdom, is a special hotel available exclusively to those who have served in the armed forces. Shades of Green is owned by the Department of Defense and features access to top-tier golf courses, including two PGA courses, a 9-hole walking course and several other beautiful options.

The specially-priced accommodations are available exclusively to eligible individuals and their families. There are different eligibility categories that affect the final room rate, but all rates are far under market value. You can view a full chart here to see if you quality.

One recent visitor wrote on TripAdvisor, "This is our 3rd time staying at the resort. We feel so fortunate to have a place that we can enjoy the Disney experience with our breaking the bank."

U.S. Navy Captain Cappy Surette retired from service after more than two decades on duty. He joined Disney through its Heroes Work Here program, which is designed to train and employ veterans from all walks of life, and today is the Manager of Executive Communications for Walt Disney World.

"Transitioning to civilian life after a career in the military can be daunting," Surette told AOL, adding that joining Disney gave him a "new mission. That’s to help make magic for millions of our Guests that visit us each year. That’s a real privilege."

If you're considering a different Disney hotel option, some of the cheapest rates of the year tend to be Nov. 11 - 22, Nov. 30 - Dec. 7, and most weeks in January and February.
