The cast of Insecure reunited over Labor Day weekend amid the WGA strikes. Issa Rae posted a video to her Instagram joking that the cast of HBO’s hit show returned for a sixth season. Yvonne Orji could be seen in the video linking with Rae, Jay Ellis, and Natasha Rothwell. “Hella unemployed-like as f**k, okay?!” Issa captioned the clip.

“Hold on, wait a minute, wait a minute,” Orji could be heard saying. “Who is this? Who is this? Is this a new Insecure [season]?? The strike season! Season six! We would have a different show.” Issa chimed in with a quip, stating, “Ain’t nobody writing it!” Yvonne then returned with a more somber tone to round out the humor. “Wait, that’s not funny. Pay us. It’s Labor Day. Pay us. We should be paid.”

Members of the Insecure crew aren’t the only entertainers joining forces to send a message. According to Deadline, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver, and Seth Myers recently began a “limited podcast” called Strike Force Five.

Strike Force Five will find the quintet speaking about their experiences navigating the 2023 writers and actors strike. The project debuted on Spotify in August 2023 and will run for 12 weeks. Each new episode will feature one of the hosts leading the conversation on Zoom.

Jimmy Fallon posted a clip of the first episode to his Instagram on Tuesday (Aug. 29). He gave fans a sneak-peek into what they could expect from the special venture. “Late night unite! Your new favorite podcast Strike Force Five premieres tomorrow with all of our proceeds going to staff and crew affected by the ongoing writers strike,” Fallon typed. “Check it out on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.”

SAG-AFTRA began their strike on July 14, 2023, after negotiations with Hollywood studios collapsed, the Washington Post reported. SAG and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers disagreed on a new contract for improved wages and working conditions.

Actors also sought improved health benefits while creating precautions that would protect them from having their likeness replicated by artificial intelligence in future projects.

Additionally, SAG seeks transparency from streaming platforms regarding royalties and viewership data to make business similar to its network television counterpart.
