BOSTON – Aerosmith is postponing the 2023 dates of the farewell "Peace Out" tour, including a New Year's Eve show set for TD Garden. A Friday Facebook post says lead singer Steven Tyler's has a vocal cord injury.

"Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care," the band posted on social media. "He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential."

The band said the currently scheduled tour dates will be postponed until sometime in 2024.

“I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world,” Tyler said on social media. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”

The band said all previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates, and refunds will be available for those unable to attend.

The 40-date tour began Sept. 2 in Philadelphia and was scheduled to conclude Jan. 26 in Montreal.

Aerosmith, which formed in 1970 and performed its first concert at what is now the Miscoe Hill Middle School in Mendon, has collected multiple Grammys and awards, performed at the Super Bowl in 2001 and starred in an attraction at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World called "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith." The band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Time in rehab

Tyler, a part-time Marshfield resident, “voluntarily” checked into a drug rehabilitation facility in 2022 after a relapse following foot surgery.

“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years,” the band said in a statement announcing the cancelation of the band's “Deuces Are Wild” residency dates last June and July at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas.

“After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery,” the band said.

Alba visit 'made everyone's night'

Tyler was in the news in April 2022 when he popped into Alba on 53 in Hingham for appetizers and salmon. The singer spent about two hours at the restaurant and graciously took photos with diners and staff, said owner Leo Keka.

“I could not believe how friendly he was,” Keka said at the time. “It was something special. ... After working a long, hard day, (the kitchen staff was) so happy when Steven asked to take a picture with them. ... He was just amazing.”

"Steven Tyler made everyone's night," Keka said.

Bringing first responders a smile after Duxbury tragedy

Tyler visited local 911 operators earlier this year after first responders were called to a Duxbury home where three children suffered fatal injuries.

Plymouth County Control shared a photo of the superstar posing with workers. The caption read, “Steven Tyler visits Plymouth County Control! #PCC #firstresponders #ThankfulThursday.”

In the photo, Tyler has his arm around one of the dispatchers as five others gather around.

Band's ties to the South Shore − from Duxbury to Marshfield to Norwell

Tyler and his bandmates have all called the South Shore home. Guitarist Joe Perry sold his Duxbury mansion last year. At one point, Tyler, Kramer and Whitford all lived in Marshfield. Bassist Tom Hamilton was the outlier, living in Boston and Cape Cod. Tyler and Perry even owned a music club, Mount Blue, in Norwell in 1997.

That time Tyler and Perry met Obama

“From Aero Force One to Air Force One” – that’s how Tyler framed a chance encounter with President Barack Obama in 2016.

Aero Force One is the name of Aerosmith’s official fanclub.

Tyler and Perry kicked back with Obama and nabbed a private tour of Air Force One. The fortuitous meeting occurred on the runway of the airport in Orlando, Florida. The musicians were on Tyler’s jet, returning from Aerosmith’s South American tour. Obama was departing Florida after campaigning for Hillary Clinton.

“While we’re sittin’ on the runway, we’re lookin’ at Air Force One, and we got out, took some pictures and the next thing you know, we’re on the plane being given a tour,” Perry told Boston music website Vanyaland.

Tyler tweeted photos of himself and Perry sitting on the aircraft’s passenger stairs and another image shows the guitarist and lead singer talking to POTUS.

Perry told Vanyaland the president heard the musicians were on board and came to meet them. “Steven and I have had some pretty cool adventures, but this one is right up there,” he said.

“Best welcome home ever,” Tyler tweeted.
