Indio police are investigating an incident involving an adult man who went to a home in the city to get help after being shot Sunday evening.

A resident of a home in the 46-500 block of Vargas Road, which is south of the Davis Sports Complex, called police just before 5:15 p.m. on Sunday to report that a victim of a shooting was at their home, Indio Police Spokesman Ben Guitron said. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Guitron said police began investigating by going door to door in the neighborhood looking for information about the shooting and any potential suspects. However, they have not yet been able to speak to the victim due to his condition.

The identity of the victim also has not been made public because investigators are still trying to determine what happened. Guitron said police believe the shooting occurred in the area of Vargas Road around 5 p.m.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Indio Police at 760-391-4051.

"We are hoping that somebody in the area, because it is a residential neighborhood, knows what might have happened and will call Indio Police," he said.
