Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Reveals TRUE Eye-Watering Budget

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was even more expensive to make than everyone thought.

Forbes revealed both its alleged final budget and its box office losses in a new report, and it makes for eye-opening reading.

According to the publication, the budget for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was $387.2 million, making it the third most expensive movie of all time.

That also gives us an insight into how much Disney lost on the movie. With an $384 million global box office haul, Forbes reports Disney lost an estimated $134.2 million.

However, this figure doesn't take into account revenue the film generated beyond ticket sales, such as marketing tie-ins, physical media sales, and new subscribers to Disney+.

“...offsetting the box office share from the expenses shown in the financial statements does not show whether the movie made a profit or a loss overall,” writes Forbes. “It simply shows whether a movie's theatrical run covered its production costs or made a profit or a loss.”

Regardless of how you spin it, the fifth and final instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise underperformed at the box office when it released in summer 2023. It also got mixed reviews, currently sitting at a middling 70% on Rotten Tomatoes.
