Trailer Premiere: 'OJ: The Musical' Spoofs Simpson and Shakespeare

In writer-director Jeff Rosenberg’s new mockumentary OJ: The Musical, a struggling theater artist (played by Jordan Kenneth Kamp) finds himself desperately in need of an idea for the great next American musical. His solution — as you can see in this exclusive trailer above — is to rewrite Othello as the story of O.J. Simpson, with O.J. subbing for Othello, Mark Furhman as Iago, and Nicole Brown Simpson as Desdemona. And if that’s not crazy enough, he’s also pledged to kill himself if the show doesn’t make it.

A mix of Wating for Guffman and The Producers — albeit with more Kato Kaelin references — OJ co-stars Malcolm Barrett (Better Off Ted), Larisa Oleynik (yes, Alex Mack from Nickelodeon’s The Secret World of Alex Mack) and Paul Scheer (The League). It will be available on VOD (via FilmBuff) and screening in 15 cities (via Tugg) on June 17 — which also happens to be the 20th anniversary of Simpson’s infamous car chase.
