Sydney Sweeney is starring as a twisted Virgin Mary in horror film “Immaculate.”

The “Euphoria” actress leads the Michael Mohan-directed feature, re-teaming with her “The Voyeurs” director. The official synopsis reads: “Cecilia (Sweeney), an American nun of devout faith, embarks on a new journey in a remote convent in the picturesque Italian countryside. Her warm welcome quickly devolves into a nightmare as it becomes clear her new home harbors a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.”

The trailer shows Cecilia realizing she is pregnant despite her nunhood while fearing the sinsiter potential of the baby growing inside her.

Andrew Lobel penned the script for the Neon film, while Sweeney produces with Jonathan Davino under her Fifty-Fifty Films production banner.

“Immaculate” marks many reunions with Sweeney’s past collaborators: Sweeney and director Mohan first worked together on the Netflix high school comedy series “Everything Sucks!,” while producer David Bernad was behind “The White Lotus.” Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler also produce for Black Bear, with Black Bear’s John Friedberg and Christopher Casanova executive producing with “Euphoria” producer Will Greenfield. Black Bear fully financed the film.

Sweeney will next be seen in the Sony superhero movie “Madame Web,” out February 14. Dakota Johnson stars as the title character, with Sweeney portraying Julia Carpenter, the Marvel Comics character who becomes Spider-Woman.

As for Sweeney reprising her role in HBO’s “Euphoria,” the series is set to return in 2025 at the earliest, and will include a time jump centered around co-star Zendaya’s character Rue. Series creator Sam Levinson previously teased that Season 3 would be a “film noir” focusing on Rue as she “explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”

Sweeney’s Fifty-Fifty production banner is additionally in production on a “Barbarella” remake. Actress/producer Sweeney formerly revealed to Variety that she wrote an original screenplay for another film but most likely will shelve the project.

“I think it was a little too complicated for people to wrap their heads around,” Sweeney said of the script. “It was cool and it was beautiful and it was bittersweet, but I look at it now as just a really cool exercise that I had for myself.”

“Immaculate” premieres March 22 in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
