Illini Insider | Local director's short film to be screened at Spurlock

Mar. 30—The audience for next week's Ebert Fellows Curated Film will also be treated with a special screening of a short film created in part by Urbana natives Jonah Koslofsky and Kat Williams.

"After Party" was filmed in Chicago, but director Koslofsky and producer Williams met while attending Uni High.

Williams is also a UI grad.

The 20-minute short film is inspired by a true story about how two of Koslofsky's friends met and started dating.

"After Party" follows a group of young adults navigating their first Halloween party as pandemic restrictions lifted in 2021.

Koslofsky writes, "I think that if you're someone who likes to examine how people interact (at parties or in general) 'After Party' is a movie for you. If you like sincere explorations of confusion, 'After Party' is for you. If you like to see liberation and connection triumph over repression and self delusion, 'After Party' is a movie for you. If you have 21 minutes and you like talky, naturalistic comedies, 'After Party' is a movie for you."

The screening on Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m. in the Spurlock Museum's Knight Auditorium will be free and open to the public, directly preceding a screening of "Portrait of a Lady on Fire."
