Ike Barinholtz Reunites With David Ayer & Will Smith On Netflix Film ‘Bright’
EXCLUSIVE: Ike Barinholtz is re-teaming with his Suicide Squad director David Ayer and Will Smith on Bright, the Netflix feature that is just beginning production in Los Angeles. This is the project that came together in an unprecedented package deal last March, when Netflix beat out traditional feature bidders and committed around $90 million for its first tentpole-sized feature. Half of that in fees to Smith, Ayer, co-star Joel Edgerton, and screenwriter Max Landis (who got a $3.5 million spec payday). The film is produced by Eric Newman, Ayer, Landis and Bryan Unkeless.
Barinholtz started at the Fox series MadTV then co-starred on The Mindy Project (he continues to star, write and produce episodes after the series moved to Hulu). He has been raising his profile in features, as well. Barinholtz co-starred in the Neighbors films and co-wrote the Kevin Hart-Dwayne Johnson hit comedy Central Intelligence. He just completed the mother-daughter comedy that stars Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, and co-stars in the Peter Landesman-directed Felt, the drama about Watergate Deep Throat and No. 2 FBI man Mark Felt (Liam Neeson). With writing partner David Stassen, Barinholtz scripted a comedy vehicle for Amy Poehler to play the coach of a men’s professional basketball team. It was called Balls, but the title’s being changed by Universal.
Bright is an R-rated grounded cop procedural, but in a world populated not only with humans but also fantastical, mythical creatures.
Barinholtz is repped by UTA and Principato-Young.
