Fans awaiting new music from Iggy Azalea may have to satisfy their pop cravings from another source. The 33-year-old shared an open letter on Wednesday (Jan. 3) to her audience on social media detailing her progress with new music and what’s next in her career.

“This is gonna be long. so only bother reading if you love me,” noted the “Fancy” rapper on X. “I’ve always been someone who finds my joy in being creative & seeing my ideas come to life. For a long time I used music to deliver my big crazy ideas to the world.”

The lengthy post continued to explain, “I know a lot of people have this idea that I was ‘bullied away from music’ and that’s something I’ve always laughed at because I’d never be bullied out of anything!”

As she continued to elaborate on her decision, the Sydney, Australia native confirmed that new music is shelved indefinitely.

“In truth what I’ve known for a long time is that I feel more passionately about design and creative direction than I do about song writing,” wrote the “Work” performer.

“That’s why I want to let you know that I’m not going to finish my album. It’s been paused for a few months while I was giving direction for a different project & in truth I just haven’t felt the urge to go back to it. I feel really happy & passionate in my day to day life when my minds focused on that and so I want to stick to what’s undeniably best for me.”

In January 2023, the chart-topping rapper released “Money Come,” her first solo release in two years. A remix featuring Ivorian Doll and Big Boss Vette was released in September of the same year. In October 2022, Tory Lanez confirmed to be working with Azalea on an album.

Since then Lanez, legal name Daystar Peterson, was sentenced to prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Throughout the process, the singer/songwriter was publicly supported by Iggy Azalea. She did not cite his conviction and imprisonment as a reason for canceling her album.

Throughout her career, Iggy Azalea has released three albums, the latest titled The End Of An Era, in 2021. Her 2014 debut The New Classic debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
