Idyllwild Arts' InterArts Department announces a unique partnership between its students and Stan's Cafe, an interactive theater group based in the United Kingdom. Using grains of rice, the globally recognized performance installation "Of All the People in All the World" transforms abstract data about the human population into emotionally compelling tales. Since its launch in 2003, "Of All the People in All the World" has traveled the globe, appearing at prestigious international cultural destinations such as The Southbank Centre, London, and The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

At a free celebratory reception on Feb. 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the public is invited to see Idyllwild Arts' rendition of "Of All the People in All the World," which features InterArts students and Stan's Café founders James Yarker and Graeme Rose. Located on the campus of Idyllwild Arts, the Parks Exhibition Gallery hosts the event (52-500 Temecula Road) and will also house the exhibition from Feb 6 to 14, 2024.

“With many synergies between both organizations, we are grateful that Stan’s Café will be coming to our mountaintop village to partner with our young artists,” says Pamela Jordan, president of the Idyllwild Arts Foundation. “Without a doubt, this experience will enrich and inspire our students.”

To depict statistics on the human population, each grain of rice represents one individual. This data is organized into labeled piles to form a dynamic rice landscape. Their juxtapositions have the power to be poignant, frightening, joyous, clever and thought-provoking. The installation is wonderfully sophisticated yet simple, and following the show, the rice will be donated to charity.

Under the artistic supervision of Yarker, Stan's Cafe is an ensemble of artists from several disciplines, mostly theater, that was founded in 1991 and is situated in Birmingham, UK. Yarker says: "We are very excited to work with the young artists at Idyllwild Arts Academy. Together, we will conduct research and create a stunning new rendition of 'Of All the People in All the World.'"
