Cat got your tongue, Idris Elba?
The 46-year-old film star stopped by "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" to discuss his two upcoming films, "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw" and "Cats."
After speaking at length about his experience acting in "Hobbs & Shaw," Elba didn't seem so sure about "Cats."
"Now, I have never seen 'Cats,' " said Colbert, putting Elba on the spot. "Can you tell me or explain to me what the plot of 'Cats' is?"
The question made Elba, um, paws.
"Uh, wow. What a way to throw me under the bus there," joked Elba, who plays Macavity the Mystery Cat in the upcoming movie musical. "It's a classic. It's a big musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I guess it's about a, uh, a cat."
"Maybe more than one," Colbert added.
"How am I doing?" Elba asked the audience.
After a shaky start, People's Sexiest Many Alive of 2018 picked up his explanation.
"And it's one cat's journey towards what is essentially cat heaven," he said. "And the idea is that we all aspire to get toward cat heaven. There's this young cat, and she gets sort of, you know, taken on this story about how to get to cat heaven, or what you should do to get into cat heaven."
But Elba still didn't seem 100% fur certain.
"How am I doing?" he asked. "Does anyone know what the story is?"
During the interview, the "Avengers" actor also confessed his "Hobbs & Shaw" co-stars, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, teased him about appearing in the star-studded musical.
"Can I tell you, though? When I was working on 'Hobbs & Shaw,' just after that I went to work on 'Cats,' " he said. "So I'm working with Dwayne and Jason, and they're like, as soon as they found out I was working on 'Cats,' this was their favorite thing to do when I walked on set. We're doing this big fight scene. I'm walking in, looking all bravado, and they'd be like, 'Hey, Idris, what are you doing next?' And the crew would be like, 'What are you doing next?' I'd be like … 'Cats.' "
Elba said his films this year make up a unique mix.
"I don't know, 'Hobbs & Shaw,' 'Fast and the Furious,' 'Cats,' " he said.
