Hard to believe, but “Adele Dazeem” has now been part of pop culture vernacular for a decade, and Idina Menzel is celebrating the birth of her alter ego.

“Hey, Adele Dazeem, it’s Idina Menzel. I just want to say happy birthday,” Menzel says in a tongue-in-cheek TikTok posted on Sunday. “Sending you so much love and positive energy, I hope you have the best, best day… Have a great one! Lots of love! Bye!” (Menzel also treats us to a quick rendition of “Happy Birthday” in the video.)

Menzel is of course referencing John Travolta’s instantly infamous introduction of her at the 86th Academy Awards in March 2014. As Travolta teed up Menzel’s performance of “Let It Go” from Frozen, he confidently labeled her “the Wicked-ly talented, one and only… Adele Dazeem,” a baffling mispronunciation of Menzel’s name that became headline and punchline fodder for months afterward. (The gaffe also recently made TVLine’s list of television’s most shocking live moments.)

The following year, Menzel and Travolta co-presented an award at the Oscars, with Menzel jokingly calling Travolta “Glom Gozingo” in her introduction.

Here’s hoping there are no such name butcherings at this year’s Oscars, airing Sunday, March 10, at 7/6c on ABC. Original Song performers will include Becky G (“The Fire Inside”), Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson (“I’m Just Ken”), Jon Batiste (“It Never Went Away”), Scott George and the Osage Singers (“Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)”) and Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell (“What Was I Made For?”).
