Need plans for February school vacation week? School is out from Feb. 19 until Feb. 26 and there is plenty to do on the SouthCoast.

Hopefully, the weather holds out and you can get out and enjoy this week with your children. It can be tough to find things for youngsters to do with the area’s unpredictable weather, so we have rounded up February Vacation ideas in the Greater New Bedford area.

Whether you want to sign them up for a class, have a family fun day, or enjoy a one-on-one activity here are the local happening this school vacation:

New Bedford Whaling Museum

Where: 8 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford

School vacation week at the New Bedford Whaling Museum is all about Captain Paul Cuffe, who was a seafarer, entrepreneur, educator, and visionary who became one of the wealthiest men of color in the nation. These programs are part of general admission to the museum.

Story Time & Craft Activity: 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 19 through Feb. 23, listen to a story time each weekday morning and then make your own craft to take home. Stories and crafts will focus on themes relating to Cuffe’s life and legacy, recommended for ages 5 to 10 years old.

Create-Your-Own Silhouette: 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 19 through Feb. 22, The best-known image of Paul Cuffe is a silhouette, make your very own paper silhouette. This is recommended for ages 5 to 10 years old.

Live Community Painting: 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19, Artist Mandy Fraser will be using the silhouette portrait of Captain Paul Cuffe as well as your words around the topics of activism, identity, and education as inspiration for her graffiti-based artwork.

Winter Camp Free Day: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 23. Admission is FREE all day thanks to Highland Street Foundation. Marvel at five massive whale skeletons, explore the world’s largest ship model and learn about a key American figure – Captain Paul Cuffe.

Paul Cuffe Book Cover Making: 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 23, learn more about Captain Paul Cuffe and then use make a cover for a book on Cuffe that you can use to remember this fun week.

Vacation Workshops

Catherine Carter Art School is offering two workshops to encourage creativity. The workshops are $130 each and include all the art materials. To sign up visit https://www.catherinecarterpainting.com/vacation-workshops.html.

Where: Hatch Street Studios, 88 Hatch St., #210, New Bedford

Fashion Design: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20. For those who love fashion and drawing, the projects will be inspired by clothing and accessory styles of the past, such as 1920s flapper dresses and cloche hats, or 1950s poodle skirts and saddle shoes. For ages 12 to 17.

Pet Portraits: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. For ages 9 to 14 who love animals. Focuses on shape, color, and texture to illustrate a beloved pet or favorite animal, using drawing and painting materials.

The Marion Art Center has three February School vacation workshops for children led by Benares Angeley. The cost for each workshop is $35 for MAC members and $40 for nonmembers. More information can be found at marionartcenter.org/events.

Cat Camp: 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Feb. 20. Cats, cats, cats, and more cats — children 5 to 10 years old will paint, sew, and make prints of cats.

Sew fun: 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. Perfect for ages 8 to 10 years old, this program will teach students how to sew their own stuffed penguins and accessories.

Painted houses and homes: 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23. Design and create your own cardboard houses. Students aged 5 to 10 years old will be able to use a variety of embellishments on their homes and create people to go along with them.

Double the fun

Owl Pellet Dissection

When: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20

Where: DNRT Center @ Helfand Farm, 318 Chase Road, Dartmouth

Cost: $10 per child, chaperones free.

Owl pellets are the regurgitated remains of an owl’s meal, including all the bones of the animals it ate. After eating, owls expel what cannot be digested as a pellet. You get to pick apart a pellet and learn what the owl had for dinner.

Family Storytime

When: noon Wednesday, Feb. 21

Where: Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum, 396 County St., New Bedford

Cost: free

Take a little break with story time at the mansion with the New Bedford Free Public Library. Bring home a family craft to create together.

Mario Mini Camp

When: 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22.

Where: K&A Creations, 127 W. Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford

Cost: $45

Lobster Days

When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22 and Friday, Feb. 23.

Where: New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, 38 Bethel St., New Bedford.

Cost: Free

Explore one of New England’s favorite crustaceans at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center. Learn from local lobstermen and see the tricks of the trade. Make a lobster craft and hear some lobster story times.

Creature Creations

When: Various times, Saturday, Feb. 24

Where: Buttonwood Park Zoo, 425 Hawthorn St., New Bedford

Cost: $16 for members; $27 for non-members

An indoor painting class led by instructor Kathleen Patrick and a zoo educator. This fun program will introduce your child to a featured animal, either inside the classroom or at an animal habitat. The Canada lynx will be this event's featured animal.

Library Days

Local libraries are hosting a variety of free events this vacation week. Make sure to check them out.

Hersey kiss sign: 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 at New Bedford Howland Green Library, Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford. Get creative and make a Hershey Kiss sign.

Movie night: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb, 21 at the Millicent Library, 45 Center St., Fairhaven. Join the library for  a screening of "Hidden Figures.” Must register for the event, and light refreshments will be served.

Crafternoon: 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Millicent Library, 45 Center St., Fairhaven. Drop in for crafts for all ages and skills.

Family story and craft: 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Lawler Branch of the New Bedford Public Library, 745 Rockdale Ave., New Bedford. Spend some family time listening to storytime and making a craft.

Build with blocks: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at the New Bedford Free Public Library, 613 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Drop in for a block-building session. Let your imagination flow.

Afternoon movie: 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at the Millicent Library, 45 Center St., Fairhaven. Join the library for a screening of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." Must register for the event, and light refreshments will be served.

Lego Club: 11 a,m, to noon Saturday, Feb, 24, at the Acushnet Public Library, 232 Middle Rd, Acushnet Show your skills, build with friends, and be creative.
