Based on the namesake debut novel by actress and author Robinne Lee, The Idea of You is an upcoming romantic comedy film. The plot revolves around a 40-year-old single mother named Sophie, who takes her teenage daughter Coachella and becomes romantically involved with the lead singer of the pop band August Moon, 24-year-old Hayes Campbell.

Michael Showalter directed the project from a script by Jennifer Westfeldt. Several articles have drawn connections between Lee’s book and fan fiction about Harry Styles, singer, actor, and former member of One Direction. However, Lee told Vogue that the book was never supposed to be about Styles though she did notice the similarities between Styles and Hayes. During the adaptation process, the main character’s name was changed from Solène to Sophie. If you are wondering when the film is coming out, you have come to the right place.

Here’s all The Idea of You release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.

Is there a The Idea of You release date?

The Idea of You release date could arrive sometime in 2023.

As of October 2023, the official release date for The Idea of You hasn’t been announced. Given that filming took place in late 2022, well before the Hollywood strikes, this is quite unusual. One explanation can be that the producers and Amazon are withholding the release until the SAG-AFTRA strike ends and the actors can promote the project.

Either way, the film is unlikely to release in the remaining weeks of 2023. As a result, it’s safe to assume that The Idea of You will come out sometime in 2024. This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.

The cast includes Anne Hathaway as Sophie, Nicholas Galitzine as Hayes Campbell, Ella Rubin as Izzy, Reid Scott as Dan Jordan, Aaron Hall as Zeke, and Jaiden Anthony as Adrian. Some of the other members of the cast are Raymond Cham, Viktor White, Dakota Adan, Annie Mumolo, Perry Mattfeld, and more.

Where is The Idea of You coming out?

The Idea of You is anticipated to come out on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2024. ComingSoon will provide an update when the release date is officially announced.

The official synopsis for The Idea of You reads:

“Sophie’s husband Dan left her for a younger woman, and now he has canceled his Coachella trip with their 15-year-old daughter. Sophie picks up the pieces and braves the crowds and desert heat. There, she meets 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of the hottest boy band on the planet, August Moon.”
