Iconic: This Ocala restaurant is celebrating 50 years.

Danielle Mann makes hamburgers for a customer on Dec. 4 at Hungry Bear.

Hungry Bear was started in 1973 by the Mayhews. Back then you could buy a Papa Bear (the restaurant's largest hamburger), small fries and a drink for $1.25. Fifty years later, the drive-thru burger restaurant is still going strong. In January 1987 Gladys Bates bought the restaurant from the Mayhews. Linda Williams bought Hungry Bear from the Bateses in February 2012 and now runs it with Cathy Mann and her daughter Danielle.
