Ice Spice will grace the big screen for the first time as part of a Spike Lee joint.

The rapper will be making her feature film debut in Lee’s remake of High and Low, the 1963 crime thriller directed by Akira Kurosawa, Variety reported on Wednesday. Though it’s unclear what Ice Spice’s role will be, she’ll be appearing in the film alongside Denzel Washington, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Jeffrey Wright.

The original High and Low, which itself is an adaptation of the 1959 pulp novel King’s Ransom, follows business executive Kingo Gondo in his attempts to force a hostile takeover of a shoe company. But a wrench is thrown into his plan when his chauffeur’s son is kidnapped and held for ransom, and Gondo is forced to choose between paying it and using the money to buy out the company. Apple Original Films, which is partnering with A24 on the project, posted a photo of Lee and Washington on X announcing that the film has begun production.

This marks the fifth collaboration between Washington and Lee, having previously worked together on Mo’ Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man. The adaptation will also be Lee’s first feature film since 2020’s Da 5 Bloods. The film will be released theatrically by A24 before launching on Apple TV+, per Variety.

Though there’s no word yet on exactly when we’ll be able to see Ice Spice hit the silver screen, she’ll be plenty busy in the meantime. The rapper will be performing at Coachella this weekend and next, marking her debut at the legendary music festival. She’s also set to drop her debut album, Y2K, sometime this year. And even before releasing a full album, the rapper was nominated for four Grammys at this year’s awards ceremony. Ice Spice EGOT when?
