Lee has reunited with Denzel Washington for his version of the Akira Kurosawa crime thriller

Ice Spice is ready to take on Hollywood.

On Weds., April 10, Variety reported that the "Princess Diana" rapper, 24, will be making her acting debut in in Spike Lee‘s reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 thriller High and Low, which was based on the Ed McBain novel King’s Ransom.

For the project, which was confirmed by Apple Original Films with a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Da 5 Bloods director has reunited with Denzel Washington, with whom he last collaborated on 2006's Inside Man and has starred in 1990's Mo' Better Blues, 1992's Malcolm X and 1998's He Got Game.

High and Low will mark Lee's fifth team-up with the two-time Oscar winner.

Ice Spice (whose real name is Isis Naija Gaston) has ascended to rap superstardom since going viral with the track “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022 and dropped projects like her 2023 EP Like..?, featuring hits like “Gangsta Boo” and “In Ha Mood."

The hip-hop star was up for her first-ever Grammys this year, including the coveted best new artist award. She received three other nominations, as well: best pop/group duo performance for teaming up with Taylor Swift on the “Karma” remix, best rap song and best song written for visual media for her collaboration with Nicki Minaj off the Barbie soundtrack, “Barbie World.”

During an appearance on TODAY in January, Ice Spice confirmed that her debut album was almost complete and that it wouldn't be long until fans would get to hear it.

“Yes, there’s going to be an album this year,” she said with a huge smile on her face when hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager asked if there was going to be an album “soon.”

The hitmaker confirmed that it would be out “this year” and revealed the title. “I’m so excited. It’s called Y2K,” she said.

Ice Spice added, “It’s almost finished, so I’m really excited.”

She also shared opened up about the story behind the album title Y2K. While fans may think it's a callback to her early 2000s-inspired style, Ice Spice shared that she actually has a special connection to Y2K itself.

“I was [born on Y2K] and that’s why I decided to name it that,” she revealed, referring to her birthdate of Jan. 1, 2000.
