Ice sculptures, skating, hockey: 5 things to do in metro Detroit this weekend

This weekend is full of outdoor winter events in metro Detroit. Ice sculptures, off-road vehicle fun and charity hockey games are in the lineup.

Fire & Ice Festival - Rochester

Ice sculptures, fireworks and ax throwing are a big part of the fun at this annual event in downtown Rochester. Visitors can also enjoy cornhole, a climbing tower, a scavenger hunt, food trucks, music and a light show.

Firework displays will take place Friday and Saturday nights and an ice carving competition will be held Saturday.

5-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday at East Third and Water in Rochester. Admission is free.

Clark Park Winter Carnival - Detroit

This event, back for an 11th year, features a winter carnival and outdoor charity classic hockey games hosted by the Clark Park Coalition. It will include ice skating, a petting zoo, horse-drawn carriage rides, the nature van from Huron Metro Parks and outdoor games from noon to 4 p.m.

Hockey fans can enjoy a women’s charity hockey game at 6 p.m. and a men’s game at 7:30 p.m.

Clark Park is at 1130 Clark in southwest Detroit. Admission is free.

Cold Rush - Warren

This event will feature ice sculptures, free ice skating, free hot chocolate and s’mores, bonfires and food trucks..

1-7 p.m. Saturday at Warren City Square in front of Warren City Hall at 1 City Square in Warren. Free admission and parking.

Winter Around the World - Detroit

This event presented by Visit Detroit will feature an international food truck rally and dance performances showcasing a variety of styles and genres by Detroit artists.

A Lunar New Year Celebration presented by the Michigan Taiwanese American Organization takes place 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

4-9 p.m. Friday, noon-9 p.m. Saturday and noon-7 p.m. Sunday at Robert C. Valade Park, 2670 Atwater in Detroit.

Detroit SnowFest - Holly

This first annual event for winter off-road fun will include campfires and food at Holly Oaks ORV Park.

All drivers must be 18 years and older to operate a Jeep, 4x4 truck, SxS or off-road vehicle.
