Ice Cube has shared his reaction to J. Cole mentioning his BIG3 league in his guest verse on Drake’s new album For All The Dogs.

On Friday (Oct. 6), the 54-year-old took to social media to voice his appreciation for the rap star’s show of homage to his professional basketball league on the track “First Person Shooter” shortly after the album’s release.

“Shoutout to @JColeNC for mentioning @thebig3 on his new song with @Drake called “First Person Shooter,” he wrote on the app. “Thanks for the love.”

One of several collaborations on For All The Dogs, “First Person Shooter” quickly became the most acclaimed and talked about song on the tracklist, with many fans, critics, and peers commending the North Carolina native’s masterful performance.

Produced by Coleman, Vinylz, Tay Keith, Boi-1da, FNZ & OZ, Cole helms the intro while Drizzy tackles the opening verse, with the Dreamville rapper doubling back on the song’s second verse. At one point, he deems the triumvirate of Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and himself as rap’s “BIG3” while alluding to Cube’s innovative 3-on-3 basketball venture.

“Still in this bi**h gettin’ bigger, they waitin’ on the kid to come drop like a father to be/ Love when they argue the hardest MC/ Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/ We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali,” the 38-year-old raps during the middle portion of the stanza.

Founded in 2016, the BIG 3 has continued to grow in popularity over the league’s first six seasons, as the league’s viewership rates reached new highs during the 2023 season.
