Ice Cube Talks NWA’s Rock and Roll HOF Induction on ‘Ellen’

With the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony coming up on Friday, Ice Cube swung by Ellen to talk about NWA’s inclusion with this year’s class. “With a group like NWA, we were fighting the music industry just for recognition,” Ice Cube told DeGeneres, “And after all these years to get recognized on the highest level and kind of, you know, cement it. It’s a great feeling.” Kendrick Lamar will be inducting the iconic rap group, with Ice Cube hoping to get the crew back together for a performance.

NWA has enjoyed a resurgence recently, largely thanks to the success of the film Straight Outta Compton. Ice Cube reflected on a possible reunion during the process. “We were always cool,” explained Ice Cube. “But to get a chance to work together again after so many years, you know. To see Dre on set, to see Yella and Ren, it was just great to be around those dudes for three or four months.”

NWA transformed the music industry, but even more impressive is the journey Ice Cube has made from rap collective member to certified star.
