Ice Cube has voiced his displeasure with being referred to as a G.O.A.T. in Hip-Hop. The rap legend, who is regarded as one of the greatest rap artists to pick up a mic, took to social media to let the public know that he’s opposed to the label.

“For those who thinks it flatters me, please don’t call me a f**king G.O.A.T. Carry-on,” the 54-year-old wrote in a post on Twitter this past Saturday (Sept. 30). He quickly added that while he appreciates the sentiments regarding his creative achievements, he is still averse to being addressed by the term. “Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate the respect but don’t call me that.”

Ice Cube has been critical surrounding his perceived place among others who’ve had the acronym, which stands for “Greatest Of All Time,” bestowed upon them throughout the years.

In February 2023, he blasted Billboard’s 50 Greatest Rappers list, on which he was ranked at No. 18 out of the top 50. “It’s an irrelevant list,” the West Coast icon said at the time. “It’s like a**holes, everybody got one and they all stink.”

In September, Cube refuted a social media user’s claim that he and N.W.A.’s music played a role in the perceived downturn of socially-conscious Hip-Hop, as well as the rise of the crack epidemic.

“Bullsh*t,” Cube wrote in response to the assertion. “Crack was in the neighborhoods a decade before gangsta rap. In the 70s they called it freebase. So was heroine, weed, Mollys, gangbanging, drive bys, pimping and hoing, dropping out of school, young girls getting pregnant, cussing and the using the word n***a. It was all here before NWA.”

Ice Cube recently announced plans to return to the music scene with his forthcoming album titled Man Down. The album will mark Cube’s first musical release since his tenth studio album Everythang’s Corrupt in 2018.
