Hurricane Hilary Affecting Los Angeles-Area Events: Concerts, MLB & MLS Games Postponed; Magic Mountain, Knott’s Closed; Disneyland Closing Early

UPDATED with latest: Hurricane Hilary is expected to weaken by the time it hits Southern California overnight Sunday, but the National Weather Service on Friday issued a Tropical Storm Watch, the first ever in the region, and California is under a state of emergency. Flash flooding and high winds are likely across L.A., Ventura and even Santa Barbara countiesy, with the main impacts expected Sunday and Monday.

It’s a busy weekend events-wise in Los Angeles and SoCal, with all the city’s NFL, MLB and Major League Soccer teams hosting games. Theme parks are keeping watch from San Diego’s SeaWorld to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios Hollywood and Magic Mountain from south to north along the 5 Freeway corridor.

Sports

Monday night’s Los Angeles Angels game against the Cincinnati Reds has been postponed due “the effects from yesterday’s storm,” the team said today. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday as part of a doubleheader.

As of Saturday night, the L.A. Chargers‘ preseason game Sunday against the New Orleans Saints is a go at SoFi Stadium, after the L.A. Rams played the Las Vegas Raiders there on Saturday.

CicLAvia – Koreatown has always gone on rain or shine, but producers have canceled the event, saying the weather on Sunday is “just too unpredictable. The forecast indicates that heavy rain will not fall until later in the day on Sunday, but for the safety of everyone coming from near and far, CicLAvia—Koreatown meets Hollywood has been canceled.

Major League Soccer said Friday it postponed Sunday’s games for the L.A. Galaxy, who were scheduled to play at home in Carson, and LAFC, who were to play at BMO Stadium downtown.

The L.A. Galaxy’s match vs. Real Salt Lake has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. LAFC’s match against Colorado has been rescheduled to Wednesday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m. In both instances, tickets for Sunday’s matches will be honored.

Major League Baseball restructured the weekend schedule for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels and the San Diego Padres, who all have home series Friday-Sunday. All originally scheduled Sunday games were played as the early games of split doubleheaders on Saturday.

Theme Parks

Here is the latest as of Monday morning:

Six Flags Magic Mountain will be closed again on Monday.

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim will close early on Sunday: 9 p.m. PT for Disney California Adventure Park and 10 p.m. PT for Disneyland Park. Downtown Disney will close at 11 p.m. PT.

Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor in Valencia; and Knott’s Berry Farm, Knott’s Soak City and California Marketplace will be closed Sunday.

Universal Studios Hollywood is saying they will have normal operations.

SeaWorld San Diego will be closed Sunday but is set to reopen as usual on Monday.

Concerts

My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes, Hollywood Bowl
Sunday’s show has been postponed due to the weather emergency and will now take place on Monday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. All tickets, including parking, shuttle, and park and ride tickets, are valid for the new date.

Michael Franti & Spearhead, Greek Theatre
Sunday’s concert was rescheduled for Friday, September 15. Tickets are valid for the new date, and a new special guest is TBA.

Judy Collins-Sophie B. Hawkins, Libbey Bowl ,Ojai
Sunday’s show has been moved from outdoors at Libbey Bowl to indoors at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center at 800 Hobson Way.
