Hurricane Harvey victims turn Christmas spirit into $50,000

On The Great Christmas Light Fight, Carter Oosterhouse went to Dayton, Texas and fell in love with the Wright family's beautiful Christmas light display. The Wright family had been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, with young James and Cynthia Wright having lost their home and all their belongings in the flood. After Hurricane Harvey hit, the older Patty and Paul Wright found that decorating their home was a gift for both them and their community. "This helped me through a lot," Patty said while holding back tears. Paul said, "She basically wouldn't let me quit. You know, she was like, 'I think Houston's going to need it more now than ever.'" Despite their family's hardships, the Wrights gave Christmas their all with a Gingerbread Village, a Santa's Workshop and a 15 foot reindeer display that Carter loved so much he got a little tongue tied about it. "This is the real deer!" he said before correcting himself, "The real deal!" In the end, Carter felt like Wright family's display was not just beautiful but inspirational and deserved the win of $50,000 and the coveted Christmas bulb trophy.
