UPDATE: House Republicans said that they will begin contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter Biden, after he refused to testify in closed doors before lawmakers.

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) also said that the House will vote on Wednesday whether to authorize an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.

“Today’s obstruction by Hunter Biden reinforces the need for a formal vote,” they said.

Earlier, Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill, where he told reporters that he was willing to testify publicly.

Comer and Jordan said, “President Biden and his family must be held accountable for their corruption and obstruction. And we will provide that to the American people.”

But the White House has been quick to note that the committee has yet to produce evidence that the president did anything wrong.

Hunter Biden was indicted last week on additional federal tax charges, adding to a special counsel’s criminal case against him. He also faces a gun charge. Biden has pleaded not guilty to the earlier charges.

PREVIOUSLY, with video Hunter Biden slammed House Republicans in a press conference on Wednesday outside the Capitol, insisting he was ready to testify in public but not in the closed-door deposition insisted upon by the GOP leadership.

The son of President Joe Biden called out the Republicans for everything from falsely accusing his father of being “financially involved in my business” to leaking contents of his laptop and releasing nude photos. The president’s son, in the candid speech, conceded that his own finances suffered during periods when he was in the depth of addiction.

“For six years, I have been the target of the unrelenting Trump attack machine shouting ‘Where’s Hunter?’,” Hunter Biden told reporters. “Well, here is my answer, I am here.”

The GOP-led House Oversight Committee had given Hunter Biden until Wednesday to testify, but the lawmakers have insisted that it be behind closed doors. The president’s son and his attorneys have pushed back on that plan, saying that it will only lead to leaks where partisan lawmakers can spin his testimony to their own advantage.

“Let me state as clearly as I can,” Biden said, “my father was not financially involved in my business, not as a practicing lawyer, not as a board member of Burisma, not in my partnership with the Chinese private businessman, not in my investments home nor abroad, and certainly not as an artist.”

After Biden’s address to reporters, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, along with Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the Oversight Committee, told a press gaggle that “when Congress asks you to come testify, you’re supposed to come and testify.”

Jordan, though, had previously defied a subpoena to testify on the Jan. 6 attacks on the Capitol.

House Republicans are moving toward a vote on whether to launch an impeachment inquiry of the president, even though their evidence that Joe Biden was involved in his son’t business dealings appears to be conjecture. A floor vote could come this week, after which hearings would start next year.

Hunter Biden said that “there is no fairness or decency in what these Republicans are doing. They have lied over and over about every aspect of my personal and professional life, so much so that their lies have become the false facts believed by too many people.”
