Hungry for a great burger? These 10 Knoxville restaurants have your craving covered

Where do you go when you have a craving for a big, mouthwatering, juicy burger?

From the Abridged Burger with caramelized onions and smoked bacon to the Elvis topped with peanut butter and fried banana at Stock & Barrel, Knoxville has plenty options to satisfy all your beefy sandwich desires.

Burger and shake chain MOOYAH suggests getting adventurous by spicing up their options with jalapenos, giving it a little sweetness with bacon jam, or adding queso for the cheese lovers.

But what's great about a hamburger is that you can have it any way you like. At Burger King, Tennesseans like it plain, according to 2022 sales data, causing the chain to officially name Tennessee the “Flame-Grilled Patty Purist State.”

When you're hankering for a tasty burger, here's where you can find unusual or more traditional cheese-and-pickles options around Knoxville.

Five Guys

  • Fresh, hand-crafted patties can be dressed up with as many toppings as you like. Five Guys has classic options like the cheeseburger or bacon burger, but you can also build your own from a list of extras including onions, mushrooms, relish, green peppers, hot sauce and steak sauce.

  • Inskip Grill originally opened in the Inskip neighborhood in 1967 serving Southern dishes, but was revamped in 2018 under new ownership. Now, the restaurant - which relocated to Fountain City in 2020 - is known for its wide selection of giant burgers, as well as craft beer and milkshakes. Burger options - many featuring familiar local names - include the Bearden Hill (a bleu cheeseburger with housemade blueberry compote and bacon) and the Popcorn Sutton (a cheddar cheeseburger with moonshine-infused barbecue sauce, ham, bacon and onion ring), to cite just a few.
