“The Hunger Games ”stage play sets London debut in 2024

London will transform into Panem for the first-ever stage adaptation of The Hunger Games.

Olivier Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson (Girl From the North Country, The Weir) will adapt The Hunger Games on Stage based on Suzanne Collins' YA dystopian novel and Lionsgate's blockbuster film franchise led by Jennifer Lawrence. Matthew Dunster (2:22 - A Ghost Story, Hangmen, The Pillowman) will direct the production, set to debut in London's West End in autumn 2024.

The Hunger Games, the first of Collins' trilogy series, revolves around a televised competition set in a nightmarish future where 24 young tributes are forced to fight to the death in an arena as punishment for a past resurrection. It follows the headstrong Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence), who voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the deadly match. Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, and Woody Harrelson also star in the franchise, which grossed over $2.9 billion worldwide.

Collins' Hunger Games prequel story The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, centered on a teenage Coriolanus Snow years before his turn as the tyrannical president of Panem, is also gearing up for its theatrical release on Nov. 17. It stars Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Viola Davis, and Peter Dinklage.
