Hulu announces summer premiere dates for 'Difficult People,' 'Casual,' more
As the winter chill recedes and the flowers begin to bloom, it’s time for TV viewers to ditch the darker dramas and maybe tune into some lighter, funnier fare - and luckily Hulu has a few suggestions.
The streaming service on Monday announced its summer premiere dates, revealing when favorites like Casual and Difficult People will be returning, as well as the debuts of three documentaries that dive into three different hallmarks of popular culture. Read on for the dates plus descriptions of the projects.
Batman & Bill: Saturday, May 6
Turns out that Bob Kane isn’t the only person we have to thank for the popular DC hero. Dive into the identity of the Dark Knight’s other creator, Bill Finger, with author Marc Tyler Nobleman as he attempts to get the overlooked writer (who was responsible for both the concept and the costume) the credit he deserves. Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce directed and executive-produced the documentary.

Becoming Bond: Saturday, May 20
George Lazenby may have taken on the role of Bond (James Bond), but the Australian actor was a literal newcomer to Hollywood before he secured his big role. The documentary-narrative hybrid tells viewers the rags-to-riches story of how a car mechanic secured such an iconic role and went on to turn it down. Lazenby (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service), Josh Lawson (Superstore), Kassandra Clementi (UnReal), Jane Seymour (Jane the Virgin), Jeff Garlin (The Goldbergs), Jake Johnson (New Girl) and Dana Carvey (Saturday Night Live) all star.
Casual: Tuesday, May 23
The 13-episode third season picks up after Charles’ death and Valerie’s decision to move out. She, Alex, and Laura begin to act out as they explore new jobs, romantic partners, and unfollowed dreams while also searching for a semblance of normal.
Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine: Saturday, June 3
Flash back to the days of Big Brother magazine with this documentary that takes viewers through the rise and fall of the skateboarding-centric magazine and its outrageous stunts (and humor) with original footage and interviews with many of the publication’s big names, including creator Steve Rocco, filmmaker Spike Jonze (Her), Jackass stars Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Bam Margera, and skateboard legends Tony Hawk and Chad Muska.
Difficult People: Tuesday, Aug. 8
Billy (Eichner) falls in love with his first real boyfriend (guest star John Cho) while falling out of love with New York City in season 3 of the Hulu comedy. Elsewhere, Julie (Klausner) will spend the 10 episodes trying everything from meditation to ayahuasca in her attempts to find happiness following the revelation that she can’t take anymore anti-depressants without risking her health. Elsewhere Marilyn (Andrea Martin) gets a book deal and Arthur (James Urbaniak) must commute to Jupiter, Florida, when PBS moves all of its productions to the Sunshine State. Gabourey Sidibe (Empire) also stars.
