THREE OAKS — The Howard Levy 4 headlines a benefit concert for the School of American Music at 8 p.m. Jan. 27 at The Acorn, 107 Generations Drive.

The band consists of Howard Levy on harmonica and piano, Chris Siebold on guitar, Josh Ramos on bass, and Luiz Ewerling on drums.

The quartet’s original music incorporates jazz, Brazilian, Latin, world music, blues and more to create a volatile mix of styles for the band’s soulful playing and deep grooves.

Levy is a world-renowned harmonica player, pianist, and composer who co-founded Béla Fleck & the Flecktones and who has played with such other musicians as Steely Dan, Trio Globo, Corky Siegel and Paquito D’Rivera, among others.

Siebold, house guitarist for five years on “A Prairie Home Companion,” is a member of the fusion band Kick the Cat.

Ramos served as Ramsey Lewis’ bass player for five years and was a member of CALJE (Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble.

A native of Brazil, Ewerling founded AMADA, a band that blends Brazilian and American musical styles, including Brazilian pop and rock, samba, swing and contemporary jazz.
