A new reality series documenting the inner workings of a house in the New York City ballroom scene will premiere on WOW Presents Plus, the streaming service from World of Wonder, the production company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race.

House on Fire follows the House of Miyake-Mugler, specifically the two heads of the household, Yusef Mugler and Exotic Mugler, as they “juggle the pressures of competition and mentoring their talented cohort,” according to a press release. Fans might remember the House of Miyake-Mugler as the winner of the second season of Legendary, the ballroom competition show that previously aired on Max, before being canceled in 2022.

“It is something we feel absolute confidence that our audience is going to eat up,” World of Wonder co-founder Randy Barbato told Deadline. “It’s anchored in ballroom culture, which is such an inspiration for so much of drag, so much of the language of it is the language of drag, and the show has incredibly compelling characters with huge hearts.”

Much of WOW Present Plus’s original programming has centered around Drag Race or Drag Race-focused talent, including the recently-premiered RuPaul’s Drag Race Live Untucked, which goes behind the scenes of the Las Vegas-based drag show. House on Fire is one of the streamers’ first big original acquisitions; according to Deadline, previously acquired titles have included the films of Drag Race mainstay Elvira and the marionette series Thunderbirds.

“When you work for a group of drunk people at three in the afternoon, when you're doing Drag Bingo, you definitely learn a lot about yourself.“

Though House on Fire does exist outside of the RuPaul’s Drag Race universe, there is a connection: fifth place season 13 queen Liv Lux Miyake-Mugler joined the House of Miyake-Mugler after competing on Drag Race. In an essay for Out, Lux Miyake-Mugler said, “If RuPaul's Drag Race season 13 was my undergrad, then I like to think of the ballroom scene as my graduate-level evolution — this is me in grad school.” The announcement of the show did not mention whether Liv Lux Miyake-Mugler would take part in the series.

House on Fire will hopefully fill a void left since Legendary was canceled, which occurred amid a number of cancellations during the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The show’s end was announced one day after the axing of reality competition series F Boy Island, which was eventually picked up by the CW, as well as queer favorite Los Espookys, the comedy show from Julio Torres.

Though the series has been acquired, a release date has not yet been set.
