House of the Dragon is about to get brutal. Season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel series features a tragic event called Blood and Cheese from George R.R. Martin’s novels, and according to Olivia Cooke, it’s even worse than expected.

Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower on the show, teased the scene with Entertainment Weekly.

"It's Game of Thrones, expect the worst. Expect the very worst possible, and then double it. I dunno what else to say without heavily spoiling it, but it is heinous."

Blood and Cheese are the names of two assassins sent on a mission. The way they accomplish it leaves lasting repercussions, and more than a few emotional scars. It speaks of an even more violent tone for the show.

"Season 2 is the march to war," says House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal. "It's really a cold war because each side is trying to undeniably win the throne for themselves without going to all-out dragon war. We do that through plotting and backstabbing and assassination and spy games and all the things that you would see in a classic James Bond Cold War thriller.”

Season 1 sees House Hightower grab the Iron Throne from under the rule of Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy). You can’t expect her to take that lying down.
