The Game of Thrones spin-off series takes place nearly 200 years before the events of the original show. The prequel series showcases an era when the Targaryens were at the peak of their powers, keeping a strong hold over all of Westeros. An aging King Viserys decides to name his daughter, Rhaenyra, as his successor, challenging the traditional customs of the lands. However, this decision does not sit well with many people and inadvertently sows the seeds for a Targaryen civil war.
Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith will be making a triumphant return to the series to lead the line as Rhaenyra and Daemon, respectively. The likes of Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, and more will also be reprising their roles in season two.

“The Targaryen dynasty is at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins when King Viserys breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm.”
