HBO viewers, your return flight to Westeros has been booked! (You’ll be riding on the back of a fearsome flaming-breathed beast named Syrax or Vhagar, we hope that’s okay.)

House of the Dragon,” the prequel series to “Game of Thrones” based on material plucked from George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” will swoop back onto the cable and streaming platform in June. This raven of information was sent by Warner Bros. Discovery’s head of streaming and gaming, J.B. Perrette, during Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom conference on Monday. I don’t know about you, but when I want to reach the core audience of Warhammer-playing fantasy enthusiasts who can quickly break down the spellcasting abilities of a Druid versus a Tiefling, I always hit Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom conference.

More from GoldDerby

The “House of the Dragon” debut episode in August 2022 was the highest-viewed HBO program in company history within 24 hours of availability, at 9.99 million. (So close to 10!) The series received eight Creative Arts Emmy nominations, winning one for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci Fi Costumes. It won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series—Drama, and Emma D’Arcy, who plays the principal character Rhaenyra Targaryen was nominated for Best Actress.

In addition to D’Arcy, the cast includes Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno. Maybe Paddy Considine will come back in a dream sequence or as some kind of spirit or something because he absolutely ruled in Season 1.

The showrunners for “House of the Dragon” Season 1 were Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, but Sapochnik has stepped down—with some reports saying it was due to HBO refusing to name Sapochnik’s wife, actress Alexis Raben, as a producer on Season 2. Incidentally, the showrunners for the original “Game of Thrones,” David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have their first substantial post-“GoT” show, “3 Body Problem,” debuting on Netflix later this month. The duo have no involvement in “House of the Dragon.”
