Hotline TNT have shared their latest single, “Out of Town.” Take a listen below.
Characterized by noisy, lo-fi production and a clear, melodic vocal line, “Out of Town” displays the high energy and lyrical expression that Hotline TNT have been honing-in on. The single follows previous releases, “Protocol” and “I Thought You’d Change” — the former of which got an honorable mention from Consequence’s Song of the Week roundup — which all arrive ahead of the band’s sophomore album, Cartwheel, due on November 3rd via Third Man Records. Pre-orders are ongoing.
Speaking about “Out of Town,” frontman Will Anderson explained that he was inspired by Minnesota acts like The Replacements. “These days most people wouldn’t have the foolishness to start a song by singing the words ‘baby girl,’” Anderson said in a statement. “But I wanted to channel my Minnesotan roots and try it out, Paul Westerberg style. Matter of fact, I think his influence is all over this tune, we had to betray the Bob Mould guidance one of these days and see how the other half lives. This one’s about losing someone you’re excited about before you even realized you had strong feelings about ‘em.”
“Out of Town” also arrives alongside a pixel-animated web game entitled Kaxtyn, which is playable on Anderson’s website. The game debuted a few days ahead of the single itself, but players who completed the level were (and still are) able to listen to the song through the game. All this comes as Hotline TNT are on the road. Tonight, they’re set to play in St. Louis, after which they’ll continue hopping around North America through the remainder of October. In November, they’ll hop across the pond for a run of UK shows, then return to North America for a few more months of shows, including some opening for Wednesday on their recently-announced tour.
