Hot Toys Revises Darth Maul, Delivers Dark Empire Luke

As if Hot Toys hadn’t dropped enough high-end Star Wars figure reveals recently — drop it like it’s Hot, anyone? — so the company is closing out the lead-up to May the 4th with two of the dark side’s best-known names.

On one hand is the Skywalker saga’s first Sith apprentice, Darth Maul. On the other, the Expanded Universe’s most unlikely equivalent: Luke Skywalker! As seen in the Dark Empire books, the Rebellion’s greatest hero turns to the Sith side, but only to infiltrate it, besting his father’s legacy by returning to the light and surviving.

Somehow, Palpatine’s Protegees Returned

Luke’s evil outfit hasn’t always been drawn exactly the same way, but Hot Toys’ take imagines a version of the Darth Vader costume if it didn’t have to contain life support too. The padded pants, lower skirt, massive codpiece, and light-up LED belt emphasize his family heritage, and the figure comes with light-up versions of both Luke’s and Vader’s lightsabers. A special deluxe Artisan Edition features wool rooted hair for anyone who really likes to go the extra mile. Pricing on both versions will be revealed today at 1 p.m. PT.

As for Maul, he’s available solo or with his sweet, sweet ride. Buy the figure alone for $285, or get him with the Sith Speeder for $405. His Tatooine vehicle includes, “LED lighted dashboard and rear signal lights to add an extra level of realism. The vehicle has detailed mechanical structure, astonishing paint application with weathering effects, articulated handlebars, and a themed base offering an alternate style for display.”

The evil warrior himself, a refinement and improvement over their last version, has “two newly developed head sculpts with separate rolling eyeball system showcasing serious and grinning expressions, newly tailored robe with enhanced fitting, Darth Maul’s iconic double-bladed Lightsaber
