Burger King promises face-melting spiciness with its newly launched Ghost Pepper Whopper – but does the heat live up to the hype?

The fast food chain added the spicy burger and new Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries to menus this month to celebrate spooky season. The Ghost Pepper Whopper, which first debuted in 2022, comes on a limited-time orange bun, topped with black sesame seeds.

Now through Halloween, Royal Perks members can purchase the Ghost Pepper Whopper, four-piece Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries, small French fries, a small fountain drink and a Hershey Sundae Pie for $13. The deal is available online or on the Burger King app. Customers can substitute the original Whopper and Chicken Fries for the deal.

What comes on the Ghost Pepper Whopper?

Let's start by explaining what's in the Ghost Pepper Whopper. According to Burger King's website, the burger is a spicy take on the brand's flagship Whopper, and features a flame-grilled, 100% beef patty, melted spicy queso cheese, crispy jalapeños, bacon and ghost pepper cheese. These ingredients come sandwiched between two toasted orange buns, which get their coloring from paprika, according to the company.

Is the Ghost Pepper Whopper spicy?

A team of 11 Enquirer staff members sampled the Ghost Pepper Whopper. Most said the burger wasn't too spicy. The average spiciness rating on a 1-5 scale was 2.4. The lowest rating was 1, and the highest was 3.5. (However, everyone only had a couple of bites. Eating an entire whopper may have changed these ratings.)

While the taste testers generally agreed the burger wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, most enjoyed its overall flavor. Only one tester chose not to finish the sample.
