Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 10, as that’s when the 2024 Academy Awards are scheduled to air on ABC. A master of ceremonies has yet to be named for the annual trophy gala at the Dolby Theatre, so now’s the perfect time to predict who might be tapped to host by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Remember, last year’s emcee was ABC’s own talk show king Jimmy Kimmel, who has now overseen three total ceremonies (2017, ’18 and ’23). But sometimes the producers surprise us with who they ultimately hire as the ringleader — remember 2022’s unlikely trio of Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes? Who should host the 2024 Oscars? Vote in our poll below.

Obviously, one of the most important factors for the academy to consider when choosing an Oscar host would be his or her popularity. Who is famous enough to bring lots and lots of eyeballs to the ceremony and help sell those ads? And since the Academy Awards are broadcast in dozens of countries, it would help for that person to be famous worldwide. That’s why superstars like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga are such intriguing possibilities.

Swift was invited to join the academy earlier this year thanks no doubt to her short film “All Too Well” being a part of last year’s Oscar conversation. (It ultimately failed to make the shortlist.) She’s one of the biggest stars on the planet and her Eras Tour is selling out stadiums from sea to shining sea. Swift doesn’t have a show scheduled for March 10, but she is set to perform in Singapore on March 9, so the timing would likely have to be adjusted if she’s asked to host the Oscars.

Lady Gaga has more of a direct connection with the Academy Awards, as she won the trophy for Best Song for “Shallow” (“A Star Is Born”) and was also nominated for Best Actress for that film, plus for writing the songs “Til It Happens to You” (“The Hunting Ground”) and “Hold My Hand” (“Top Gun: Maverick”). Whether she’s performing or presenting on the Oscar stage, Lady Gaga is a frequent invitee and memorably held court with the one and only Liza Minnelli when they presented Best Picture together to “CODA” (2021).

Some former Oscar acting winners who we think deserve their shot in the hosting chair are Ariana DeBose (Best Supporting Actress for “West Side Story”), Jamie Foxx (Best Actor for “Ray”) and Tom Hanks (Best Actor for “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump”). DeBose has done a terrific job hosting the Tony Awards twice already.

Past awards show hosts like Kimmel, Hugh Jackman, Trevor Noah and Tina Fey & Amy Poehler have already proven to be reliable on stage, whether they’re emceeing the Oscars, Grammys or Golden Globes, respectively.

And then there are some wild card suggestions like beloved movie star Dwayne Johnson, Broadway legend Lin-Manuel Miranda and inspirational drag queen RuPaul Charles. Cast your vote in our poll right here:
