After 12 seasons and a staggering 24 years on the air, Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will finally bid farewell. What began as a mock, behind-the-scenes look at a fictional David putting together a new comedy special blossomed into one of the most enduring and outrageous series of all time. Although neither David nor his character would want to be sentimental, to commemorate the announcement of its imminent series finale, revisit the dozens of awards nominations it received for its first 11 seasons.

Though he would likely never describe himself as an actor, David has a long list of nominations for his acclaimed, exaggerated performance as himself. The lovable curmudgeon earned six Emmy bids for Comedy Actor in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2018. He also racked up three Golden Globes noms in 2003, 2005 and 2006 and three SAG bids in 2006, 2010 and 2018, which demonstrates how different awards bodies have been receptive to his hilarious portrayal of his so-called “social assassin” at different points in the show’s two-decade run.

In addition to David, costar Cheryl Hines was nominated twice for her performance as his exasperated wife in 2003 and 2006. The series’ estimable ensemble has been recognized three times by the Screen Actors Guild. Those Ensemble nominations recognized Shelley Berman, Ted Danson, David, Susie Essman, Jeff Garlin, Hines, Richard Lewis and J. B. Smoove.

One source of the show’s awards success has been its unrivaled guest cast. At the Emmys, Shelley Berman, Bryan Cranston, Michael J. Fox, Bill Hader and Lin-Manuel Miranda have all scored nominations. At our own Gold Derby Awards, Jason Alexander, Mel Brooks, Fox, Hader, Miranda, Catherine O’Hara and Tracey Ullman all netted bids, too, though no one ever took home a trophy.

One of the show’s only two Emmy victories dates back exactly 20 years to the third season episode “Krazee-Eyez Killa,” directed by Robert B. Weide. In his acceptance speech, Weide said, “Winning one of these is a lot easier when you’re collaborating with the greatest comic mind working in television today, and that mind belongs to Larry David.” Weide earned four other Emmy bids for directing the show for episodes “The Doll,” “The Car Pool Lane,” “The Christ Nail,” and “Palestinian Chicken.” Directors Larry Charles and Bryan Gordon each earned two Emmy noms apiece, and David Steinberg netted one. The DGA has awarded the series two prizes, one for Gordon’s “The Special Section” and another for “Palestinian Chicken.”

Other categories in which the series has performed well include single-camera picture editing, for which it received 10 Emmy noms including a victory in 2012 for Steven Rasch for “Palestinian Chicken,” and casting, for which it has netted six Emmy bids.
