Honey Ross will reportedly be making her script-writing debut in a big way, by co-writing the script for Sydney Sweeney's remake of Barbarella alongside her mother Jane Goldman.

According to Deadline, the podcast host is said to be in negotiations to join the hotly-anticipated project and pen the script with Goldman. Edgar Wright is in talks to direct the movie, with sources telling the publication that the project is still very much in the pipeline as both Sweeney and Wright are busy with other projects.

In the meantime, Ross and Goldman are said to have been brought on board to write the script and make sure it is ready to go for when both actor and director are ready.

Ross has previous experience in a writers room having worked in one for the 2022 BBC series Everything I Know About Love, she has also been credited for helping write additional material for The Big Fat Quiz of the Year in 2010. But Barbarella will certainly be Ross' biggest writing credit to date.

Elsewhere, Ross works as a body positivity activist and hosts the podcasts Reel Talk and Body Protest — the first of which is a project she shares with her dad Jonathan Ross.

Goldman has a long history of launching franchises, as she wrote the screenplays for Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, and wrote the story for its follow-up X-Men: Days of Future Past. The producer has also written the first two films in the Kingsman franchise, and for films like Stardust and The Woman in Black.

Barbarella is a remake of Jane Fonda's 1968 cult hit film, which follows the titular space traveller (Fonda) as she embarks on a mission to find a scientist named Durand Durand (Milo O'Shea), who has created a weapon that threatens to destroy humanity. It is a wild, camp sci-fi film that hasn't been outshone yet,

It is not yet clear if the remake will follow the same story, but Sweeney is expected to portray the same character and the film is based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book series which the 1968 film took inspiration from.

The remake was first announced in 2022, where it was confirmed that Sweeney would both star in and act as executive producer on the film.
