Honduran cuisine is served at new Ocala restaurant

An Ocala couple have taken their popular Honduran cuisine catering business to a new level.

Sindy Mejia; her husband, Ramiro Bonilla; and two family members, Gloria and Jose Cruz, opened the dine-in restaurant, Antojitos Con Sabor Catracho Restaurante Hondureno, on Aug. 5 at 1429 NE 25th Ave., Ocala.

Mejias and Bonilla, originally from Langue, Honduras, moved to Ocala from Miami about five years ago. They have operated a catering business here for over a year and developed a following with dishes like pollo con tajadas.

Family friend Laura Cruz served as a translator during a recent interview. She explained the couple prepared and delivered meals, often to local work crews or for local events, and word spread about their Honduran food offerings.

Laura Cruz said the eatery’s pollo con tajadas is “very tasty, delicious,” and the recipe includes green bananas.

Restaurant guest Todd Rudnianyn with Neighborhood Storage and his mother, Shirley, visited the eatery for the first time recently after they noticed the new restaurant while driving by.

Todd had baleadas and Shirley had enchiladas, which she called “delicious.”
