Good news if you have plans for this weekend: The Jaguars play at 9:30 in the morning on Sunday, leaving all afternoon to do other stuff.
Lots of good things to do with all that free time. One of Mexico's biggest stars is in town for a concert on Friday, and the Jacksonville Symphony is on stage, performing old favorites and a brand-new piece of music. One of the area's biggest corn mazes opens up this weekend, and there's a big home show and barbecue festival going on downtown.
Carin León became a big star in Mexico while performing with Grupo Arranke. Now he’s looking to bust out as a solo act north of the border with his Colmillo de Leche Tour, which stops by Jacksonville's VyStar Veterans Memorila Arena at 7 p.m. Friday. $49.50-$225.
The Jacksonville Symphony has big plans for the 2023-'24 season, and it all starts with "Beethoven, Schumann & Liebermann." The performances, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Jacoby Symphony Hall, include the world premiere of a new piece by Lowell Liebermann played on the gigantic Bryan Concert Organ. $29-$84.
Home + Patio Show
More than 200 exhibitors will be on hand at the Jacksonville Fall Home + Patio Show with whatever you need to fix up your home, plus they have professional pickleball lessons, plant workshops, food trucks and visits from Craig Conover from “Southern Charm.” 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. $12.
Conner's A-Maize-ing Acres isn't an easy place to find, way out in Hilliard, but it's worth the drive. The working farm opens its fall season on Saturday with a Southern Charm on the Farm Vendor Market & Farm Day, with a corn maze, farm games, pumpkin patch, duck races and farm animals. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. $19.95.
Brew & BBQ
The festival formerly known as Bluegrass, Beer and Barbecue has been rebranded as Brew & BBQ, even though it's headlined by Jacksonville "psychedelic bluegrass" band Firewater Tent Revival. Barbecue trucks and local brewers will also be on hand. It's free from 4-10 p.m. Saturday at James Weldon Johnson Park in downtown Jacksonville.
